Cher membre de la Swiss Specialty Coffee Association
Le 27 novembre 2017, la SCA a informé tous les AST (formateurs autorisés) qu’il leur est interdit de former des personnes originaires d’Iran et de Crimée ou de prévoir l’organisation de formations dans ces pays. Cela découle du fait que le siège social de la SCA se trouve aux US et est donc soumis au droit et aux sanctions des Etats Unis.
Le Board de la Swiss SCA ne peut qu’exprimer son mécontentement par rapport à ces développements et défendre la formation dans le domaine du café comme sujet apolitique qui devrait être disponible à tout intéressé sur le sujet. En même temps, nous reconnaissons en tant qu’association internationale le devoir de respecter les lois et sanctions en vigueur.
La nouvelle SCA globale et unifiée va bientôt fêter son premier anniversaire. C’est encore une organisation jeune et fragile, composée de membres d’horizons divers, talentueux, dédiés et passionnés. Dirigée par des volontaires soutenus par une équipe centrale dynamique, la SCA doit faire face à ses premiers défis. Nous sommes convaincus, qu’une fois ceux-ci surmontés, nous assisterons à l’émergence d’une organisation plus forte, plus unie et orientée vers l’ouverture et l’intégration.

Dear Member of the Swiss Specialty Coffee Association,
On November 27th, the SCA informed all authorized trainers that they, at this time, cannot provide training to persons living in either Iran or Crimea, nor can they conduct training programs in either country. This is a consequence of the SCA being a US-based organization and hence, required, by law, to comply with U.S. sanctions.
We, the board of the Swiss SCA Chapter, are not happy with this situation and firmly believe that education on coffee is an apolitical resource that should be open to all who desire to learn about coffee. We also acknowledge that as an international organization the SCA has the obligation to cooperate with the law.
The new, global and unified SCA will soon celebrate its first anniversary. It is still a young and fragile organization with a highly diverse, talented, dedicated and passionate membership. Led by volunteers and supported by a dedicated staff, the SCA is experiencing initial challenges. We are confident, that within time, the specialty coffee movement will emerge from this phase as a strong, global, inclusive and open organization, where dialogue and pioneering spirit will prevail.
