Hey Swiss Coffee Community!
We’re excited to announce the Swiss Barista Championship Preliminary Rounds, where baristas from across Switzerland will compete for a chance to showcase their abilities and earn a spot in the semi-finals.
What’s Happening
Hosted by our partners Coffee Lab in Zurich and Lausanne and Coffee Coaching Club in Bern, the preliminary rounds will take place at three different venues, representing different regions of Switzerland. It’s a fantastic opportunity for baristas of all levels to come together and celebrate their skills.
Why We’re Doing This
Our goal is simple: to make the Swiss Barista Championship more inclusive and accessible. By providing the same coffee and equipment to all participants, We’re committed to creating an impartial platform where the talent of every barista can truly stand out.
How It Works:
At each location, up to 12 competitors will have access to identical equipment, including the same machine, grinder, cups, and milk options. Additionally, they’ll have the freedom to use any additional equipment we provide or use their own for items like milk pitchers, tampers, chilling devices, etc. Each competitor will receive the same mystery coffee(s) delivered to their doorstep, giving them time to test recipes and prepare for their 10-minute routine. On the big day, they’ll serve up four espressos and four milk beverages, showcasing their talents under standardised conditions.
Judging Criteria:
Fairness is key. Our judging criteria focus on technique, execution, and the quality of the coffee served. It’s all about recognizing the dedication and knowledge that goes into every cup. The competitors will explain the recipe used, detailing the reasoning behind each decision, and highlighting the techniques used and, of course, the most important, the taste notes of their espressos and milk beverages need to be accurate.
Prizes:
Thanks to our sponsor, Oatly, the top barista at each location will receive a cash prize of 300 CHF. Plus, the top two competitors from each venue will advance to the semi-finals, together with the 6 more, based on total ranking.
