Preliminary Rounds of the Barista, CIGS, and Brewers Cup Championships 2027: Register Now

Preliminary rounds for the 2027 Barista and Brewers Cup Championships will be held again this year. There are also new preliminary rounds for the Coffee in Good Spirits Championship!

Following the great success of recent years, we’re holding the preliminary rounds again. They also give newcomers to the Swiss coffee scene a chance to compete in the championships—which we’re very happy about. The winners of the preliminary rounds will qualify for the finals at the Swiss Coffee Festival.

Here’s how it works

During the preliminary rounds, you can qualify for the finals. This event will take place as part of the Swiss Coffee Festival on October 31 and November 1, 2026.

For all three championships, only six starting spots are available per venue. Allocations are made on a “first come, first served” basis. The maximum per company is 2 participants admitted.

How the Coffee in Good Spirits Pre-Round works

The Coffee in Good Spirits Pre-Round will follow the Spirit Bar format. Before the competition, you will have an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the setup at the venue and sample the sponsored spirits.

You will have five minutes of preparation time, followed by six minutes for your performance. Within this time, you must prepare two identical coffee- and alcohol-based designer drinks.

The spirit you use will be determined by a draw. You will draw a card and be assigned one of the three sponsored spirits. You must use at least 10 ml of the selected spirit:

  • Ginuine N°1 Alpine Herbs
  • Stoli Premium Vodka
  • 1800 Blanco

Five MONIN syrups will also be available. If your cocktail requires sweetness, you must use one of the provided syrups:

  • MONIN Ruby Chocolate Syrup
  • MONIN Cherry Blossom Syrup
  • MONIN Rhubarb Syrup
  • MONIN Pure Cane Sugar Syrup
  • MONIN Bergamot Syrup

You can choose from three provided coffees for your creation. The brewing method is up to you: you can use the espresso machine or work with your own filter brewing method.

Sponsored glassware will also be available, but you are welcome to bring and use your own glasses.

Equipment for the Barista Pre-Round

The following equipment will be available for the Barista Pre-Round:

  • Espresso machine: two-group La Marzocco Linea PB
  • Espresso grinder: La Marzocco Jay

What happens next?

After you register, you’ll receive an email with all the details. Depending on the championship, this includes picking up coffee for practice sessions, providing information on available equipment, setting up on site, and all other logistical matters.

If you have any questions about registration or need more information, please feel free to contact gloria.pedroza@swisssca.ch.

We look forward to seeing many new and familiar faces, and we wish all participants the best of luck in the preliminary rounds!
